Julian’s Business Tips: a Run-down of the Year

As we reach December, it is a great time to reflect on how your business has performed over the year.

How has yours done? And how do you measure it?

We often set goals, and while it is important to have a major goal, it is useful and motivational to set achievable milestones along the ways so you can measure your progress.

The way I managed my personal goal, to run a 10,00 Miles during the 12 months to raise money for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, was like this:

I’d never even run close to this distance before but I believed the target was achievable. To help me get there I set smaller milestones – I committed to several organised races, each one longer than the last, culminating in my first ever marathon on the South Downs at Beachy Head last month.

And for fun (because running isn’t always fun), I also challenged myself to do a video diary of each of those runs – search ‘Julian Berry ACT’ on YouTube if you want to see me suffer amongst some spectacular scenery!

I haven’t reached my goal yet, but I have achieved my milestones, so should get there before Christmas. How did you get on?

Before I go for another run (which will take me over 950 miles!), I’d like to thank everyone who has read my articles this year, and wish you all a peaceful festive season and a profitable new year!

If any of you felt able to spare a couple of quid to support Addenbrooke’s, then I’ll put my ‘Just Giving’ link at the bottom – there are no fees, and the charity would be really grateful. Thank you.

I’ll see you all again in January’s issue when I will share what I have learnt about video making and social media!
