Julian’s Business Tips: Business Nitty Gritty

As I watched a gritter on my icy journey to work last week, I was reminded that just as an icy road can be treacherous with unseen black ice to catch out the unwary, so the road to success also has hazards to spoil the progress of the inexperienced traveller!

In life as in business, there are loads of qualities that can help you succeed, but surprisingly sub-zero roads and people searching for success need the same thing: Grit!

Make mistakes, look like an idiot, and try again

Don’t stress about your ‘failures’ – they are a useful learning experience, and a necessary step in the process of reaching your goals.

When things get tough, push harder
If you don’t challenge yourself, you can’t change yourself. Just as athletes push themselves beyond their comfort zones to improve, so should you! But also factor in recovery periods afterwards!

Do the things you don’t want to do
Every moment spent dreading a task drains your energy and time – don’t agonise, just do it! The sooner you start, the sooner it’s done and you’re moving on to something better.

Have patience
Today’s world wants instant gratification – but that isn’t good for you to expect immediate results, or to settle for something because it’s quick. Have the patience and courage to put in the time needed to achieve the really big wins.

You’re not alone
Asking for help when you need it is not a weakness, it’s a strength. Use the experience of others to propel your business forwards, faster!

Make sure your road to success stays well gritted this winter!
Safe journey!
