Year 2 pupils from Icknield Walk First School have taken a step back in time to experience the sights, smells, sounds and emotions felt by those present on Pudding Lane in 1666.
A special visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company gave our pupils a real sense of appreciation of how the residents and workers would have experienced the Great Fire of London, many years ago. Children re-enacted the escape by boat to Moorfield, created scenes from Pudding Lane, discovered what London was like back then and creatively produced a fire scene using coloured ribbons, discovering just how quickly the fire spread. One child expressed, “We got to use our imaginations.” Another told how, “It was very exciting.”
