Chairman of Royston Photographic Society is Peter Andrew. His quiet presence is what steers the club along its current path with Peter contributing in all aspects of club life.
Peter took up photography in the early 70’s buying a Zenith B SLR as his first camera. Landscape photography was his first love as he was living close to the Peak District with its fabulous views across hills, rocks and moors. Landscape is still a favourite photography of Peter’s today. It wasn’t until his retirement that he joined the ranks of camera club. Once there his interests widened being inspired by club presentations, competition critiques and through coaching from other members who were, and still are, willing to share their ideas and skills with others. Whilst Peter declares his joy of landscapes, his trademark in recent times has become outstanding pictures of English Cathedrals, usually scoring well in competitions.
Like many other club members, Peter takes full advantage of Therfield Heath with wild flowers, birds and insects adding variety to his landscape photography. Peter stepped up to the role of chairman over 3 years ago with unanimous support from the membership. He has fostered close cooperation with neighbouring clubs and has energetically led Royston’s push towards playing a bigger part in the life of the town through exhibitions and support of other societies in town. He has also pushed the social agenda in our club building the camaraderie between members and engendering a strong team spirit in our activities.
The club meets every Thursday, 19.45, during term time, at Icknield Walk School. Camera club season will finish in early May but a summer programme of activities is about to launch. Any photographers wishing to join our adventures should contact Andrew Gillborn at andrewgillborn@gmail.com.
