Spotlight On… St John the Baptist Church Update

St John the Baptist Church Update

Royston Parish Church is a focal point for the whole community of Royston. We will be restoring the Church following the devastating fire and we will be taking the opportunity to update and refurbish it ready for the years ahead. Restoration is now underway. This is expected to take around 18 months and will consist of three phases.

Phase 1 – Emergency
The Church is enclosed in scaffolding to allow a temporary metal roof to be fitted and to enable specialists to check that the bells are still safely attached to the tower.

Phase 2 – Salvage
Church contents will be removed for disposal, replacement or restoration. This includes the church organ, which will be carefully dismantled and cleaned to remove debris and smoke deposits.

Phase 3 – Restoration
The Church building and internal structures are grade I listed, so restoration and other improvements will be guided by the Diocese of St. Albans and English Heritage to ensure our beautiful Church is restored appropriately.
