Spotlight On… RNLI Fundraising Branch

Did you know that Royston has a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) group?

We might not be by the seaside, but many of us visit and enjoy UK beaches throughout the year, and the vital work of the RNLI helps to keep us all safe. The Royston group was established in March 1969.

They hold a variety of collections throughout the year at various spots around Royston, such as Tesco and Bury Lane. In May they can be seen on the streets around Royston raising money for this amazing charity.

They also attend a number of markets, fetes and festivals. Here they sell souvenirs and their dedicated volunteers create a variety of items that they hold a tombola for. One of their volunteers knits a variety of mascots and they also have jars with a variety of items in.

The money they raise could train, equip and kit RNLI volunteer lifesavers. It will keep them safe and allow them to rescue those in danger, in the most challenging sea conditions imaginable.

The Royston RNLI Fundraising Branch are a small committee and meet around 6 times a year.

Currently they are in need of a treasurer, as their current one is retiring.

What the role involves:
• Following financial procedures and maintaining accurate online records of financial transactions relating to the group.
• Main point of contact for the Branch Accounts Team in relation to reporting and auditing
• Attending meetings and assisting fundraising events and activities
• Presenting a financial report at meetings and completing an annual statement of accounts
