Electric toasters are regular attenders at the Royston Repair Café. An owner at another local repair café explained to the repairer that the slices of bread wouldn’t stay down. Within minutes the problem had been diagnosed and fixed – by shaking all the crumbs out of the toaster!
Often getting an item back in use is not as difficult as people imagine. As suggested by the toaster example, frequently it’s a matter of taking care of the items you use – a stitch in time and all that. As a rule of thumb, if something is tight but should be loose – lubricate it, and if it’s loose and shouldn’t be – tighten it up! And don’t be afraid to clean your vacuum cleaner filters from time to time.

There are a growing number of Repair Cafes around Royston, the next one in Royston itself is 2-5pm at the Coombes Community Centre on Saturday 14th November.
At the last Royston Repair Café in August, over 50% of the items were successfully fixed, including a radio, sewing machine, pasta dish, and a table lamp. Clothes are also frequent visitors.
