Paul Bowes, owner of Royston’s Bow Books, acknowledges how essential it is for local businesses to retain a presence in people’s minds by regularly organising eye catching promotions in his still fledgling store on Angel Pavement.
Since his launch in June, Paul has expertly managed to stay in the public eye by constantly booking literary speakers and celebrity book signings. This coming Saturday he scores once more by inviting an author who he published a book for over twenty years ago, and a former female football celebrity.
Carrie Dunn, a native of Luton, will be reunited with Paul who published her first book over 20 years ago under his Book Castle banner which he operated from his bookshop in nearby Dunstable.
Back in 2002, Carrie wrote her intriguing book, ‘A Brand New Bright Tomorrow’, A Hatters Promotion Diary, to celebrate Luton Town’s promotion from Division 3 of the Football League. She went on to create her next publication, ‘ Unsuitable for Females’ The Rise of Lionesses and Women’s Football in England which has been short-listed for the Football Book of the Year 2023.
She will be at Bow Books on the 2nd of December at 11am for the signing of her latest book, ‘Woman Up: Pitches, Pay and Periods – The Progress, and Potential of Women’s Football’, which gives insight into the many problems that still beset the female sporting heroes.
Accompanying Carrie will be Karen Farley, a former Lioness who was in the first-ever official Women’s World Cup in 1995.
