In 2017 Dave Rance and the Rockin’ Chair Band started playing jazz on Monday lunchtimes in Royston on a monthly basis.
The band plays Traditional, New Orleans and Dixieland style jazz along with providing great humour. At the time, some people queried lunchtime on this day of the week but it became a great success. Unfortunately, the Covid epidemic called a halt in 2020, but the sessions recommenced in 2021. 
The current location is The Old Bull Inn and takes place on the last Monday of every month, apart from this December, when it will be the 18th.
The music starts at 12 noon and runs until 1pm, when food is served to the table. The band then plays again from 1.30 until 2.30pm. A first class menu is available and it all takes place upstairs in The Ballroom. Entry is £10 per person for the jazz with no prior booking required.
The band were originally formed 25 years ago and quickly established a reputation on the UK jazz scene for their high standard of musicianship and all round entertainment value. Standards which they have maintained to this day under the leadership of jazz legend, Dave Rance. A leading jazz publication once described them as ‘Often amusing, always entertaining’. A very apt description and well deserved.
