Community News: Royston Historic Town Trail

Are you looking for a reason to get out into the fresh air this January? Discover Royston’s Historic Town Trail!

You may have noticed the triangular bronze markers embedded into the pavement throughout the Town Centre. These mark a 31-point history trail, starting at Royston Parish Church, taking in such points as: Dead Street – so-named because of the number of people living there who died from the Plague; the small, square key cupboard used for the coachmen to open the coaching inn gates late at night; the building where King James I reportedly signed the death warrant of Sir Walter Raleigh, and many more fascinating facts about our town.

There are two versions of the trail: the full 1.5 hour walk, or a shortened 45 minute tour.

Pick up a copy of the printed Town Trail Guide from Royston Library, or from one of the holders outside the Jolly Postie, or to view the guide online, visit:  www.roystontown.uk/royston-town-trail-2
