My Local Life… Lisa Jayne Adams, Mayor of Royston
The Listing recently caught up with our new Mayor of Royston, Lisa Jayne Adams, to find out more about the person behind the role. As Mayor, Lisa works with Royston Town Council to support and promote the town.
Where do you live and how long have you lived there?
I was born at Royston Hospital in April 1973 to my parents Peter Adams and my dear mother Jackie Adams. I’m the oldest of four, I have two sisters and a brother. I am a true Royston woman having lived here all my life. I moved into my current home near Burns Road in Royston 30 years ago and it’s my ideal location, near to a park, a doctor’s, a school and the train station. My 3 children have enjoyed a wonderful childhood here, just as I did.
Tell us about your role as Mayor and what you hope to achieve over the coming year.
I attend meetings, civic events and functions and try to be as active as possible for the people of Royston. I’m very excited to have been elected Mayor of Royston, it’s an absolute dream for me and I’m very grateful for everyone’s kindness and support in this chapter of my life so far.
What’s your favourite local place to eat and why?
I enjoy meeting people and socialising and over the years I’ve visited many local establishments. We are lucky to have so many good quality bars, restaurants and cafes and to see many places opening in town as well. I like visiting the local pubs like The Jolly Postie, Wetherspoons, or the newly opened King James. I’m just as happy stopping for a cuppa at Birch’s Café.
What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday?
My Saturdays are family days. I love going to the local market or the park with my youngest daughter or my grandchildren.
What makes you happy?
My happiness is my family and friends and I feel blessed to have so many people around me that support me.
What is your most valued possession?
Royston is a really wonderful community and this is my most valued possession in my eyes. The treasure of being in a place with so much beauty, being able to walk freely, feeling safe, being in nature. I just adore our surroundings.
What is your favourite Royston experience?
My favourite experience is childhood memories of going to the Green Plunge, then next door to the cinema, it was so much fun, the six week holidays were the best. As I kid I always loved walks at our stunning Heath and I still enjoy it now.
What is your greatest fear?
I guess my fear is not to fulfil all I want to do. In my first 50 years, I have achieved a lot. I intend to keep going. I want to support my family and friends and volunteer for local charities such as Make Lunch, Pathways to Learning and Home Start. Mostly at this point, I hope to have a great year as Royston Town Mayor.
