Start 2020 with a fun, friendly and sociable stroll around Hertfordshire’s countryside

A local Ramblers club is encouraging young people to discover the physical, mental and social benefits of walking in their New Year resolutions. Stag Walkers, a friendly and sociable walking group aimed at people in their 20s and 30s (and anyone young at heart!), is hosting two leisurely introductory walks on Sunday 5th January 2020 with the aim of attracting new members. Both group walks explore the countryside just outside Hitchin, easily accessible from the town centre.

The first walk is a five-mile loop around Oughtonhead, starting outside the entrance to Hitchin Library at 10am. The second walk starts at 1pm, also outside Hitchin Library, and is a five-mile stroll through farmland and parkland near the small village of Charlton. Rebecca Dawson, Chair of Stag Walkers, said: “A good walk at this time of year presents the perfect opportunity to shed some Christmas kilos and blow away the January blues. Stag Walkers offers a variety of walks, and we also organise a few weekends away every year – we’ve just had our first pre-Christmas group getaway in the Peak District, which was brilliant fun.”

Rebecca added: “We have arranged these introductory walks to encourage people to try something new and healthy in the New Year. If you’re thinking about taking some exercise, want to meet new people or just want to explore the beautiful scenery of the local countryside, then we would love to welcome you along on 5thJanuary!”
