Spotlight On… Royston District Scouts are looking for Volunteers to help welcome more young people to Scouting…

Royston District Scouts provides Challenge and Adventure for over 500 young people supported by over 80 adult volunteers, from our groups in Royston, Steeple Morden, Barley, Melbourn, Harston and Barrington.

Scouting is youth lead, young people given a say in their activities. As they get older, they develop leadership skills and begin to run their own activities. Over twenty of our Explorer Scouts are young leaders and help to lead aspects of the Beaver, Cub and Scout activities and meetings. Many of these use this volunteering for their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Young people take part in many activities from Beaver Scouts that are just starting their adventure and having their first night away from home, Cubs and Scouts taking part in adventures activities on land and water to Explorer Scouts attending world Jamborees, including two selected to attend Roverway24 in Norway.

We want to keep growing and welcome more young people into Scouts but we need more volunteers to make this happen. Our adults come from all social backgrounds. They all bring their own skills to the team whether they help once a month or every week, whether they help in uniform with weekly youth meetings, are a member of the trustee board or the camp cook.

Our current priorities are increasing the capacity of our three Explorer units and opening a new Beaver Colney at our Harston Group.
