Spotlight On… New Choir Lights Up Royston

Members of the new Royston community choir Somewhere 2 Sing have had quite the first term, as their members feel the buzz from their recent public performances.

Somewhere 2 Sing was founded by choir director, Duncan Rutherford, in 2016, and since starting with only a handful of attendees, the family of choir groups in the region now welcomes over 600 members each week.

The choir doesn’t audition or require any experience but it still prides itself on being able to offer incredible opportunities to everyone and give them a platform to achieve extraordinary things.

The Royston singers felt privileged to sing at the Royston Christmas Light Switch-On and, after performing to hundreds of people in their hometown, felt excited to tackle their next gig – singing in Trafalgar Square! Royston members joined other Somewhere 2 Sing choirs from across the county in singing and raising money for charity, in front of one of the most famous Christmas trees in the world at the heart of the capital.

Duncan explains, “Now we have a dozen or so classes running each week across the county, the number of amazing experiences we can offer our singers is really exciting. In the last year alone, we’ve been able to perform at St Albans Cathedral, Disneyland Paris, Covent Garden, and even record an EP at Abbey Road Studios, which is now on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon Music!”
