Hertfordshire Libraries Celebrate 100 Years of Service with a Year-Long Programme of Events
May is shaping up to be a lively and engaging month at Royston Library, as part of the Hertfordshire Libraries Centenary Celebrations. With performances, early years drama, historical displays, and hands-on experiences, there’s something for everyone in the community to enjoy.
On Tuesday 13th May at 10.15am, the library welcomes Tiny and Tall Productions for the first time with their play “A Tale of Us”. This gentle drama, designed especially for parents with children aged 0–18 months, will be followed by a sensory play session. The event is free, but tickets must be booked in advance at the library.
On Friday 9th May from 10.30am to 12noon, visitors can take part in Explore Your Archives Month by delving into the library’s fascinating collection of maps. This informal session offers a chance to enjoy some local history over refreshments, all provided free of charge.
Families are also invited to join Booster Cushion Theatre on Thursday 29th May at 2pm, as they return to Royston Library with their energetic and interactive performance of “Old MacDonald and the Three Pigs +”. Aimed at children aged 3 to 7, this humorous twist on classic tales is sure to entertain. Tickets are £5 per person (adult or child) and are available in advance at the library or online. Children must be accompanied by an adult: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/libraries
In collaboration with Royston Museum, the library will also host a special drop-in session on Tuesday 27th May from 10am to 12 noon. Visitors can view and learn about selected museum artefacts in a relaxed library setting—another free event as part of the Centenary programme.
With more events and activities planned throughout the year, Royston Library invites everyone to get involved and help celebrate 100 years of Hertfordshire Libraries.
