Royston Kite Festival & Historic Vehicle Show…

One of Royston’s biggest events of the year is to go ahead. The Kite Festival on Therfield Heath will be held on Sunday 6th August. However, this may well be the last time it takes place at that location. The Rotary Club of Royston, who have organised the event for the past 30 years, are looking for an alternative venue for next year. The decision to move comes after a long period of constructive discussion with the Conservators of the Heath much of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The President of Royston Rotary Club, Peter Mitton, said yesterday “It is unfortunate we have been unable to reach an agreement to stay on the Heath after this year. The festival has raised approx. £100,000 for local charities. However, we hope we can find another suitable site for the future. We are now reaching out to the local community to find suggestions for another location. It would preferably be somewhere within easy reach of Royston, with good access and parking, a large area for an arena and stalls and an ideal setting for flying kites”.
