Royston Foodbank will be ceasing operations in the town at the end of November, when project managers Andy and Viv Williams will be retiring to spend more time with their family.
The Openhouse Project, also run by Andy and Viv, has generously allowed the foodbank to operate from Market Hill, but from November this building will no longer be available as this too will be closing.
The Trustees of Royston Foodbank have been exploring many avenues over the past year, including the possibility of taking on a new lease, or becoming a satellite with another foodbank. They have also recently been in discussion with a local community group who are interested in setting up a foodbank. Should this go ahead there would be provision in the town again in the spring.
In the meantime Letchworth foodbank have assured us that clients will be made welcome at their Letchworth or Baldock foodbanks, and local agencies referring clients to the foodbank have been advised of any changes they need to make.
Andy said “ We have found the last few years challenging but incredibly worthwhile. The service has been run completely by a dedicated team of volunteers, and the foodbank has been able to help many local families who have found themselves in difficulty. Being a fairly small foodbank in an amazingly generous community has meant that it has been possible to take time to help with more than just food needs.”
It is hoped that the community will continue to support any new foodbank venture setting up in the town.
