Since March 2026 Wise Local Crafters have been remarkably busy with a huge project! ‘The Longest Yarn’ a thread through history, is a display at Peterborough Cathedral commemorating past and present forces.
Wise Local Crafters with the kind help from the ladies at U3A, Melbourn took on the huge task of creating a beautiful panel sized 1 metre x 5 metres long. The panel consisted of hand crocheted and knitted commemorative flowers (more than 1200) and flags, all sewn together to then be displayed at Peterborough Cathedral from June 2026. It will then travel around the country to be displayed at different exhibitions.
All the 25 panels created came from many other groups from different areas across the country, so we were very privileged to contribute. There will be a total of 25 panels that will be hung in the cathedral and we are number 23!
In commemoration of this mammoth task Wise Local Crafters hosted a ‘thank you’ coffee morning at Eternit Sports and social club to all the wonderful ladies that contributed. We had the finished panel on display in all its splendour! Thanks to everyone that came and thanks those who made wonderful cakes!!
Special thanks to Phillipa who coordinated and organised this spectacular project! We could not have done it without her!!
Thank you to all the wonderful ladies that made flowers, flags and sewing!
