What if feeling good is actually good for you?
For years we were sold the idea of “no pain, no gain”. That exercise needed to hurt, burn or leave us exhausted before it was really doing us any good.
But perhaps we’ve been looking at it the wrong way.
What if one of the secrets to staying active and well is finding something your body actually enjoys?
Because when something feels good, we want to return to it. And “consistency”, rather than punishment, is where we really benefit.
That’s one of the things I love about yoga. It invites us to move, stretch, strengthen and breathe, but also to listen. To notice when we need strength and energy and when we need ease. And this is why it also becomes a mindful practice.
Imagine your body as a beautiful instrument. Your breath, heartbeat, energy and movement all have their own rhythm. No two of us play quite the same tune.
“Some things become clearer when you give yourself the right space to listen”
And perhaps September is the perfect time to do just that.
As summer begins to soften into autumn and routines start to return, rather than throwing yourself into another punishing fitness regime, perhaps find something you genuinely look forward to.
A weekly yoga class can become a wonderful anchor in your week: an hour to move, breathe, reconnect and reset. Something that feels good while you’re doing it, and hopefully leaves you feeling even better afterwards.
So this September, ask yourself:
What feels good? What lights me up? What makes my body sing?
Find your rhythm. And keep returning to it.
