Community News: North Herts & District Citizens Advice: August

Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire (CANH) is urging local residents to check their rights before booking a package holiday.

Nationally, Citizens Advice received around 3,500 complaints about package holidays in the last 12 months, with issues ranging from misdescribed accommodation to unavailable facilities. Poor customer service is also a major concern, with reports of long wait times and unresolved complaints.

One in four people who experienced a problem said it caused stress or anxiety, while others had to pay unexpected extra costs during their trip.

CANH is encouraging holidaymakers to:
• Check what protections are already included
• Ensure you have appropriate insurance.
• Keep records, including photos and receipts

You may be entitled to compensation if your holiday is not as described, if key services are missing, or if you incur extra costs due to problems.

Report issues straight away, rather than waiting until you return home.

Catherine Bennett from Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire said:
“Holiday problems can quickly turn what should be a relaxing break into a stressful and costly experience. We’re hearing about issues like poor accommodation, cancelled services and long delays trying to put things right. Knowing your rights, checking what’s included in your booking, and keeping clear records can make a real difference if something goes wrong.”
