“That’s not exercise, it’s flagellation”, so the playwright Noel Coward once said of squash.
True, it can be physically draining, and at times psychologically challenging too, but those who play enjoy a year-round social sport that keeps you fit, helps to get any negative energy out, and is never affected by the Great British weather.
Melbourn Squash Club, on the grounds of the Village College, offers social and competitive squash for players at all levels of experience and standard. We have two well-maintained courts and operate independently alongside a busy site of community-based sport.
Our ethos is to foster an environment of friendly competition, encouraging members to find their own level of play and ambition to develop. Internal leagues provide a regular opportunity for games against players of a similar standard, and there are more structured weekly sessions throughout the year, including an open and inclusive Club Night (Thursdays 6pm), coaching for Juniors (Wednesday afternoons), and a training session for team players (Sundays 4pm). England Squash qualified coaches are also on hand to support group participation and offer private lessons.
Playing an active part in the wider competitive scene in the region, the Club puts out 3 teams in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire leagues in both winter and summer seasons and members participate regularly in county and regional competitions.
We are always delighted to welcome newcomers to the Club, so if you’re an experienced player new to the area, if your racket and shoes have lain dormant for some time, or if you’re an absolute beginner keen to give it a go, we’d love to hear from you. This is a fun and friendly kind of flagellation.
