Royston Community Gallery Curwens Gallery in Royston is delighted to present Ivana Kisegi Podgrajsek.
Born in 1979 in ex-Yugoslavia, travelled and moved a lot across Europe and UK, before settling in Royston in 2018 with her husband.
She has been painting since her last year at university, but she kept it as a hobby until a dear friend of hers, Lily Halcoop – art historian and former custodian at Natural History Museum London, saw her paintings and convinced her that she should stop hiding her art from the world. During several years, Lily also sold quite a number of Ivana’s paintings creating local exhibitions for art collectors from North Yorkshire, Norfolk and Essex.
Ivana is deeply inspired by nature and animals. Her paintings emanate bold colours, fairy tale settings and colourful sunsets. She paints primarily in acrylic and occasionally mixed media.
In Ivana’s words: ‘I’m suffering with fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression, so painting for me is a form of escape, an opportunity to create a world where I can relax, exhale and feel safe. For me, my painting is finished when I feel a strong urge to walk into it and spend a night inside, just to rest my soul from a turbulent world.’
Locally, Ivana has exhibited at Letchworth open 2025 and Royston Art Fest 2025 as well as sold a number of paintings through Facebook.
