The Brian Leslie Racher Charitable Trust is a Registered Charity (Registration Number 1108727) based in Royston, which awards grants to organisations for the benefit of the community.
The Trust was founded in 2004 on the death of Roystonian Brian Racher, whose legacy was to support the Royston community which he held so dear.
The Trust’s activities are to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the inhabitants of the larger of the parish boundaries of Royston, Herts and two miles from the parish of St John the Baptist, Royston, Herts.
Since the Trust started, grants totalling £1million have been made to organisations in Royston.
In recent years, grants have been awarded to: the Christmas lights in Royston, Citizens Advice Royston, Royston Arts Festival, Make Lunch Royston, Royston Parkinsons Group – Walking Football, Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club, Royston Museum, Royston Foodbank, Royston Choral Society, Royston Parish Church, Royston Heath Archery Club, and many, many more organisations over the years, for projects that allow them to deliver their services, make improvements and for publicity.
Organisations wishing to apply for a grant must fall within the boundary, or run activities that support residents within the boundary, of Royston, Herts, and two miles from the parish of St John the Baptist, Royston.
Grant applications must be made via an application form that can be downloaded from Royston Town Council’s website:

The forms ask for details of your organisation, what you would like the grant for, and to outline any other sources of funding that you’re applying for or that have been received.
Along with your form, you need to send various documents, such as a copy of your organisation’s constitution, your last bank statement, your signed accounts and an income/expenditure projection of your organisation for the current financial year.
The Clerk to the Trustees, Rekha Madl can be contacted at Rekha.madl@teeslaw.com to help guide you through the form if needed, and put you in touch with one of the trustees who will be able to assist you.
There are ten Trustees who are all local and have strong knowledge and links with the community in Royston. Their role is to assess each grant application from a compliance
and governance point of view, to ensure that applications meet the terms of their Constitution and that funds are being spent on projects which benefit the local community. There is also a process for submitting a grant application from an individual.
The Trustees meet four times per year, in January, April, July and October, when all decisions on Grant applications are made.
If your organisation is successful, the Trust ask that you thank Brian Leslie Racher Trust on your organisation’s publicity, and let other organisations know that Grant funding is available to the benefit of the Royston community.
