Local charity Rowan is getting ready to launch its annual art exhibition, on 24th and 25th February in Cambridge.
The exhibition, which will be held at The Leys School, will be open to the public and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase artworks. All the money raised from art sales will go to the charity, which supports adults with learning disabilities. To mark its 40th Anniversary, the charity has launched the ‘Raise the Roof for Rowan’ fundraising campaign, seeking to raise funds for the replacement of the deteriorating roof at the Rowan art centre.
Entitled ‘The Journey’, the exhibition showcases the work of local artists who have produced artworks inspired by their interpretation of a journey. Every piece, whether by amateur or professional, will sell for £45.
“Rowan’s art exhibition is all about community spirit,” explains Rose Bloomfield, Rowan’s Fundraising and Events Manager. “We extend an open invitation to all, regardless of artistic background – whether you’re a novice or a seasoned artist. Anyone can buy one of our blank canvases for £10 to create their own artwork for the exhibition. We’re always blown away by the remarkable pieces of art we receive back.”
Inspired to create a masterpiece? There is still time to buy a canvas and return it to Rowan’s art centre by 9th February. Visit Rowan’s website for more details.
The event, which is free to attend, will also feature a silent auction of work donated by established artists from all over the UK as well as a pop-up shop of artwork created at Rowan.
Rowan’s annual art exhibition is open 10am – 3pm, 24th – 25th February 2023, at The Leys School, The Fen Causeway, Cambridge, CB2 7AD. Entry is free.

Rowan is a vibrant, independent registered charity providing an arts centre and forest school for adults with learning disabilities. Since 1984 we have provided a safe, creative, and enriching environment where the arts are used as a tool to bring people together and tackle social exclusion. We develop the skills and potential of our students while improving their happiness, health and wellbeing. We also deliver much needed respite to families and carers.
Rowan provides a range of creative workshops in woodwork, ceramics, textiles, print, mixed media, drama and music. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm, 50 weeks a year. We arrange regular trips out to theatres, museums and exhibitions to explore art and culture further, and in 2020 we launched Rowan Rangers, our forest school that enables students to be creative and connect with nature.
We have a strong social enterprise ethos and accept both large and small-scale commissions from individuals and organisations.Â
Rowan also runs a range of community art classes during the evenings and weekends and our venue is available to hire outside our creative workshop hours.
We believe that people living with a disability should have the same choice, quality of life, opportunities and aspirations as others and with your support we can continue to make this possible.
