Royston Cave 2022: A Year of Discovery
Our ‘Year of Discovery’, to celebrate 280 years since Royston Cave was discovered, is drawing to a close.
Every month this year we’ve launched brand new ways for you to discover the cave’s story. We’ve launched music, a virtual cave, a Youtube channel and activities for children. We’ve introduced brand-new events for Summer Solstice, Halloween and Christmas, plus an open day of tours, completely free, so you, our community, could celebrate with us. We’ve commissioned new research, published 12 articles, transcribed and published 5 old books and documents, and made 4 research and conservation reports available to all. Phew!
But we’re not stopping there. To see the year out, we’re launching an online Collections facility. That’ll mean that our collection of artifacts previously excavated from Royston Cave will now, for the first time ever, be available to be seen and examined online, for free! How’s that for a Christmas present?
Plus, we’ve already released tickets for our Christmas events! On 3rd Dec, descend into Royston Cave to meet Father Christmas and experience a unique, underground winter wonderland. Then, join us on 10th December to see the cave’s carvings by the flicker of candlelight for our most mystical event of the year!
That’s the last of our little updates here at the Listing, but you can still follow along on social media. Thank you to all who have supported the cave this year, either in person or online. Despite a short season and a reduced tour capacity, it has become one of our most successful seasons on record. We return for the new season on 1st April 2023. Until then, keep discovering and keep being curious.
