Royston Museum – Discover Over 2000 years of Royston’s story

Discover over 2000 years of Royston’s story… by Royston Museum

’Tis the season to be jolly!

On 10th December, we’re wrapping up the year with a Dickensian Christmas bonanza! Play festive Victorian games, make yuletide decorations, listen to carols, drink mulled wine and meet Father Christmas in our winter Grotto! Drop in 10 – 4. Free entry. £3 for admission to the Grotto.

Last month we opened a brand-new exhibition area with the launch of our new temporary exhibition: Pickle for Victory! We’re developing an exhibition programme that will deliver 3 unique, temporary exhibitions every year so that more parts of our Collection can be enjoyed by all.
Pickle for Victory! marks 100 years of Royston’s War Memorial. Discover Royston’s fundraising efforts during the Wars, like the lady who pickled 68,000 eggs and the rose-sellers who took the town hostage. We also have some of Royston-lad Jack Halstead’s sketches on display, illustrating his experiences as a soldier in the First World War. 10th November 2022 – 4th March 2023.

We’ll be closing for Christmas on 11th Dec and reopening on 12th January 2023. During this time, our Curator will be busy organising, storing and archiving more of the 20,000 items in our Collection, so it can be better cared for and accessed in the future.

Having only reopened in June, we still have lots planned and we’re excited about what the new year will bring. Our museum musings will continue here in the Listing so you can get a sneak peak at what’s going on behind the scenes. Until then, have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.
