Zooming Ahead with Royston U3A!

Although coronavirus continues to disrupt our lives, Royston U3A has found a way out of the doom and gloom.

By holding regular online zoom meetings members can get together and keep in touch – and newcomers are welcomed along.
“It’s easy to feel isolated in these difficult times so it’s more important than ever that people feel they are part of the community,” said chairman Jackie Gellert.
“Since restrictions began we have maintained contact with our members, and crucially our telephone buddy activity has meant that they still feel connected and involved with each other.”

Royston U3A has around 450 retired and semi-retired members. As well as monthly meetings with a guest speaker interest groups are now meeting online. They range from French conversation, current affairs and wine appreciation to book clubs, gardening and art. Several outdoor activity groups have also been meeting up, restrictions permitting, including clay shooting, golf and walks.

“Zoom technology solves the feeling of isolation, it’s easy to use and people have said that Royston U3A has been a great source of help,” said Jackie.
“With winter stretching ahead we hope more people will come and join us and we will do our best to make the next few months as good as they can be. It’s strange not meeting face to face but zoom is the next best thing!”
