Update From Royston Parish Church: March/April

We are pleased to report that, since our last update, much has been happening to move the project forward.

As will be seen from the increased activity around the church we are well into Phase 2 of the re-instatement of our beautiful church. Work commenced at the end of February and is anticipated to take until early October. This work involves mainly the repairs to the roof of both the nave and bell tower together with work required to the tower masonry internally and externally. Following completion of this work the scaffolding and covering along the nave will be removed.

Plans have also been finalised for the re-ordering of the church and approval for the work is being sought from the diocese in order that the work can be scheduled. In line with this tender, documents are being prepared for this Phase 3 work in order that it can be commenced at the earliest opportunity.

Contracts have also been signed for the re-casting and hanging of the bells which will be available by the end of the year.

We have reached a decision on the chairs which will replace the pews and details of the proposed Sponsor a Chair scheme will shortly be available – we have already received considerable interest from members of the community in this scheme.

We have also determined the supplier for the replacement/upgrade of our Audio/Visual system.

Following the decision to replace the old pipe organ with a digital one we are now discussing options with suppliers.

We continue to be most grateful for the interest and support given to us by the community including further donations. Total donations has now risen to over £45,000 – our thanks to all involved. Recently we have received £1,000 from the Rotary Club Swimathon and more than £500 from the Roysia Ladies Group.
