Spotlight On… Royston Runners Marathon Efforts

Chris Cooper will be Marathon Des Sables. Dubbed the ‘toughest foot race on earth’. Competitors cover more than 150 miles over 6-days in one of the worlds most inhospitable environments, the Sahara desert.

Chris will be raising money for a little girl called ‘Mae’, through the charity ‘Tree of Hope’, which raises funds to help transform the lives of sick children.

Hannah and Hollie Cowan are running their very first marathon in Milton Keynes on 1st May for Macmillan Cancer Support. “Seven years ago our mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It came as a huge shock to our very close knit family. We are very proud to say our mum has been all clear for six years. Our mum had an incredibly kind and supportive Macmillan nurse.

Tasha Angwin is running the London marathon for ACT, (Addenbrookes Charitable Trust), specifically the major trauma centre. “Having worked for the trauma surgeons at Addenbrookes I have seen how much amazing hard work they do for so many patients. This is is my first marathon and I’m so excited to participate in this amazing life experience.”
Spencer Calvert is also running this year, having raised over £2500 for ACT last year and having to withdraw at the last moment due to injury.

Nick Coles was desperate to run the London Marathon having run the Brighton Marathon four times and Dublin once, and John Adamson will be running his 4th LondonMarathon, both for the charity Khandel Light.
Nick approached Khandel Light and they gave him a charity place. Although not a charity he’d heard about he really appreciated being given the opportunity to run on their behalf. You can find out more about this amazing charity on the just giving pages:

Running For Beginners

The Absolute Beginners running course is back this April.

The course is designed for people who may have never run before or want to get back into running to build up their fitness. The course leaders from Royston Runners will keep you motivated throughout the 11-week course, taking you from couch to 5k runner!

Every week you’ll meet as a group and work through the training plan set, all at your own pace. The first few weeks will consist of walking and light jogging –
but that’s all part of the improving process! On top of meeting new people and getting fit, these sessions are completely FREE! However, booking in advance is essential as spaces do tend to go fast!

Royston Runners will be hosting two different sessions to allow as many people as possible to take part. The first sessions will be on Tuesday 4th April & Wednesday 5th April at 6.30pm – be sure to book your place on a day to suit you.
