MF Tennis Coaching programme is growing fast. High quality coaching is now not only held at Royston Tennis Club, but also Melbourn Tennis Club and Barley Tennis Club with plans to grow the programme further.
Now with 2 qualified coaches, Matt Fellingham, and Nathan O’Looney, along with many level 1 and 2 qualified assistant coaches. Toby Jackson, the leading level 2 coach will be running the Barley Tennis club programme.
Matt Fellingham won Aegon Coach of the Month July 2010 and was nominated for coach of the year. Matt also became an ambassador to ‘Ultimate player’ in 2016. He has been coaching for 16 years and has one of the leading Tots Tennis programmes in the UK. The ongoing success of the tots Tennis has proved itself recently, with the 8 and under age group being undefeated in over a year in the Hertfordsire leagues. The 9 and under team also made it to the county finals in March held at Gosling High performance centre in Welwyn. MF Tennis also have various players now receiving funding from the LTA.
Nathan O’Looney has been coaching full time for 2 years and got to number 1 in the county at junior level. He has been helping Matt to grow the coaching programme in the last couple of years.
Both coaches are also qualified professional racket stringers, able to service all racket sports.
MF Tennis are particularly proud to be coaching Sarah Simpson, who has been selected to compete in the 2017 special Olympic games. Sarah won Gold in the singles and Mixed Doubles in the 2013 Games and is hoping to match that success in 2017.
In the adult section of Royston Tennis club, the teams have had the best achievements ever seen at the club in the last few years. They became the first club to win the county Grays Cup 3 years in a row after not winning it for over 30 years. The Mens, Womens and Mixed 1st teams have all made it to division 1 with the Mixed first, second and third team all competing in division 1 making up almost half of the top division.
Royston Tennis club provide free adult social Tennis club sessions to all members on various days, along with free mini and junior club sessions on Monday and Friday evenings 4-6pm supervised by one of the coaching team. Everyone is welcome to come and try these sessions for free before being required to join as a member, so please go down and give it a try.
MF Tennis has been given some funding to run heavily subsidised adult Cardio Tennis sessions on Thursday evenings at 7pm. Please contact Matt for details.
