May Pet(s) of the Month
Luna Animal Rescue currently have several friendly, lovable cats in foster care, aged between 8 months and 2 years, all looking for their forever homes. Some of these beautiful cats would thrive as solo pets, while others are bonded pairs who are happiest together. If you think you could offer a warm, loving home to one (or two!) of these companions, Luna Animal Rescue would love to hear from you.

Luna Animal Rescue: A Lifeline for Animals in Need – Since its founding in October 2013, Luna Animal Rescue has been a passionate force in the world of animal welfare. What began as a mission to save dogs from local and national pounds has evolved into a much larger rescue effort – one that now embraces dogs, cats, and small animals, all of whom are cared for in loving foster homes across the UK.
A Mission Rooted in Compassion – Luna was established with a clear goal: to give abandoned dogs a second chance at life. Many of the dogs entering UK pounds face uncertain futures, and without rescue intervention, their chances of finding new homes can be slim. Luna’s founders saw the urgent need for change and stepped up, offering hope, love, and lifelong support to dogs that others had overlooked.
Since then, more than 300 dogs have found their forever homes through Luna Animal Rescue, thanks to the dedication of volunteers, fosterers, and adopters who share in the belief that every animal deserves safety, care, and a family to call their own.
The Heart of Luna: Foster Families – Unlike many large shelters or kennels, Luna operates as a foster-based rescue. This means animals are not placed in boarding facilities, but are instead cared for in real homes by experienced and compassionate fosterers. These foster homes are mainly located in the South East of England – including Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Cambridgeshire – but Luna’s reach has expanded across the country, supported by a national network of dedicated carers.
Foster families play a crucial role in the rescue process. They provide:
• Safe and loving environment
• Behavioral assessments and insights
• Support with basic training
• Socialisation and emotional care
Through their work, Luna can learn everything possible about each animal’s personality and needs, helping them make the perfect match between pet and adopter.
In some rare cases, kennels may be used, but only ever as a short-term solution while the team finalises foster placements or training plans.
A Registered Charity with a Big Heart – In 2015, Luna became a registered charity (Charity No. 1163839) – formalising their long-term commitment to rescuing and rehoming animals with dignity and compassion.
Luna proudly upholds a non-destructive policy, meaning no healthy, well-balanced animal is ever euthanised. Every animal that comes through their doors is treated with respect and given all the time and support they need to recover and thrive.
Importantly, adoption is never the end of the journey. All animals rehomed through Luna are backed by a lifetime of rescue support. Whether an adopted pet experiences challenges later in life or an adopter’s circumstances change, Luna is always there to provide guidance, reassurance, and practical help. They also work closely with local training professionals, ensuring dogs in particular, receive the tools and structure they need to succeed in their new homes.
Health and Happiness: A Top Priority – Every animal under Luna’s care receives full veterinary attention before adoption. This includes:
• Neutering or spaying
• Vaccinations
• Microchipping
• Worming and flea treatment
• General vet checks and any necessary medical care
Small animals, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, also receive neutering and vaccinations where appropriate.
This commitment to health not only gives adopters peace of mind but also reflects Luna’s promise to give every animal the very best start in their new life.
How You Can Help – Whether you’re looking to adopt a companion, become a foster carer, or support Luna’s work through donations or volunteering, there are many ways to get involved. Luna Animal Rescue continues to grow thanks to its amazing community – people who believe in giving animals not just a second chance, but the right chance.
