Experience the art, culture and history of Venice through the journey of the artist dubbed a ‘proto-rockstar’ by David Bowie as new documentary, Tintoretto: A Rebel in Venice, comes to select cinemas across the UK & Ireland from Feb 26.

Narrated by BAFTA Award-winner Helena Bonham Carter, this documentary celebrates the 500th anniversary of the birth of the last great artist of the Italian Renaissance. It will explore the rivalry among the most important Venetian artists of the 16th century: Tintoretto, Titian and Veronese.

This visually spectacular new art film explores Tintoretto as the true mirror of Venice. A one-of-a-kind genius, open-minded, restless, brave and with a strong love for freedom—as well as unstable and elusive—he reflected the true spirit of the lagoon city.

The artist dubbed a ‘proto-rockstar’ by David Bowie and ‘the first film director in history’ by Jean-Paul Sartre can finally be experienced up close in a stunning cinema experience, featuring special guest Peter Greenaway. TINTORETTO. A REBEL IN VENICE is produced by Sky Arts Production Hub, the commissioning and production centre of excellence that focuses on creating pan-European art and cultural event programming.

Tintoretto: A Rebel in Venice is the first of a new season of three fine-art documentaries as part of the Art Beats Series 2020. In partnership with Nexo Digital, CinEvents brings the Art Beats Series 2020, to select cinemas across the UK & Ireland from February onwards. The series will be shown on set dates from February and will take audiences on a journey through the history of art, showcasing centuries of artists and their masterpieces in Venice, Madrid and St Petersburg.
