Community News: Priceless Smiles at Rotary’s Children’s Fun Day

Children’s Fun Day is a national charity with one simple, powerful mission: to ensure every child gets the chance to be a child – especially those facing challenges – poverty, disability, care situations, or family struggles.  Every year, Rotary organises special events across the UK, bringing thousands of children together to play, explore, laugh, and make memories.

This year, Rotary’s  regional event was held at Wimpole Hall. On 17th June more than 100 children, aged from 8 to 14, along with schoolteachers, carers, volunteers, and support workers were welcomed. From the moment they arrived, the atmosphere was electric.

Seeing the children’s faces light up was priceless. The bouncy castle was never empty, with children bouncing and laughing.  Gerry’s ice cream  offered a cone for every child, and the craft corner was a hub of creativity. The children also had rides on a miniature steam railway and visited Wimpole Hall Farm to see the sheep,  cattle and pigs happily rooting around in the mud.

At lunchtime, Royston Tesco provided a meal for all,  and Bow books, also from Royston, gave each child a book to take home.

After lunch, the two groups swapped so that every child could meet the animals. The fun started all over again.  Tired feet and rosy cheeks tell the story of a day well spent and the children left with pockets full of memories, looking forward to returning next year.
