Community News: Royston Christmas Extravaganza 2023

On the 4th of December Royston Fire Station opened its bay doors once again to its Christmas extravaganza. This is following on from our fantastic Halloween event that saw over 3000 people flow through the station.

The station was decorated to welcome Santa and his helpers. This included grottos, 24-hour Santa cam, life size camels, gingerbread house & the Polar Express. Alongside all of this was a little steam train that carried passengers through a sparkly tunnel, a carousel ride and serenaded by the Royston Radio team. The event ran for 4 hours in the evening and followed on for the rest of the week to allow children with disabilities and special needs to come along and get to meet Father Christmas.

Throughout the event, the team at the fire station gave out much needed safety advice on a multitude of topics such as Fire safety in the home, Road & driver safety, Dangers associated with water, Electrical safety, Cooking safety, Gas safety and many other subjects.

Alongside all of this, we aimed to raise money for the Firefighters Charity who provide support to serving and retired members of the service alongside those of their families.

The total amount of people that were seen throughout the week was 2500!!!!! And, as yet, the sum raised hasn’t been verified but is looking to be around the £1000. A fantastic achievement.

It was another brilliant example of the team at Royston pulling together to give back to the community a bit of cheer as well as us getting out the messages that are needed.

Once again special thanks need to go to so many amazing people and companies who made this event the success it was. Norbury’s, Nationwide building supplies, and Tesco for their incredible donations of materials and sweets. The local councillors Fiona Hill & Steve Jarvis for their help with the donating of much needed funding. The town mayor Lisa Adams for her fantastic support and promotion of the event. Royston Radio for providing the tunes to entertain. Joey from Meldreth Fairground rides and Meldreth Steam trains to entertain the kids.
