Community News: Food Bank Collections At Tesco

What happens to the food you donate into the Food Bank collection bins at Tesco Extra Royston?

Tesco have two Food Bank collection bins at the front of their store.

Tesco customers have been extremely generous throughout the year, and Tesco have been able to support all of the local food banks on a weekly basis. The food ranges from breakfast cereals, tin vegetables, packet foods etc which has enabled us to provide substantial meals for those in need.

Royston, Buntingford, Melbourn, Meldreth & Home Start Food Banks all collect from Tesco on a Tuesday, and distribute the foods to families in need in their communities. It’s not long before the collection bin begins to fill up again!

Royston Mayor, Lisa Jayne Adams, visited in early December and was impressed by the volume of food we were able to offer thanks to the generous donations from our customers.

As Community Champion, Mandy Jinkerson oversees the allocation of food and runs a WhatsApp group for the five Food Banks that Tesco Extra Royston supports, to enable the food banks to communicate with each other, ensuring that donations are allocated where most needed.
