Be Sustainable in January, Sustainable New Year’s Resolutions 2025

When it comes to making your New Year resolutions, here’s a list of ideas to help you along. Pick one, some or all and stick to the plan!

Shop Local: For all manner of food and home items, pop to the shops on foot and pick up a few necessary items instead of driving out of town and ending up with a trolley full of stuff you don’t really need.

Leave the car at home: Take the train or the bus for longer distances. Cycle, scoot and walk to work or school if it’s within a manageable distance. Even electric cars have an environmental impact from their mass production. If you must take the car look at car sharing to reduce the impact on our resources.

Reduce your meat intake: Veganuary is a good way of combatting the after effects of an indulgent Christmas so when February arrives look at what you eat a little more closely. Is the meat that you buy produced fairly and locally? Reduce your consumption to one or two days per week and buy something that would previously have seemed too expensive.

Shop Pre-Loved: We don’t need to buy new every time. It costs money and the planet, particularly where fast fashion is concerned. Pre-loved apps are a great way of finding exactly what you want and charity shops are always worth a rummage while also supporting great causes.

Save Water: Ironic given our damp British weather, but conserving water really does save energy because of the amount needed to
produce clean water and process sewage. Shorter showers and quick, low-temperature eco washes are all that is usually needed.
