That takeaway coffee lasts minutes, but the disposable cup leaves an environmental footprint for much longer. Most single-use cups contain plastic and are difficult to recycle, meaning millions end up in landfill or as litter.
4th October is No Disposable Cup Day – By choosing a reusable cup, you reduce waste, conserve resources, and protect wildlife.
You can also make an impact by supporting local businesses that offer sustainable options, or by choosing to enjoy your coffee at home.
A note on alternatives: Vegware is hard to recycle, and our local council cannot compost or recycle it. Unless returned to the supplier for commercial composting, it ends up in landfill or incinerated. In fact, we regularly collect both plastic and Vegware cups on our litter picks. To refresh your wardrobe for the cooler weather, we are holding a SWISH/Clothes Swapping Event on Saturday 10th October (10 am-12noon) at The Old Bull Inn. Drop off unwanted items and find something “new” for free! See opposite or visit roystonenvironmentalgroup.org.uk to find out more.
We meet for drinks at 7.30pm on the fourth Wednesday monthly at The Old Bull Inn, with speakers on different themes from across the environmental spectrum.
