Lucy Cook – Colour, Texture and Urban Style

Our stunning front cover image this month is by North Hertfordshire artist Lucy Cook, and is currently being exhibited at the new Nicholas Penn Fine Art gallery at 20 Market Hill, Royston, SG8 9JG.

Lucy’s expressive work combines graphic design influences with mixed media techniques, blending urban style with layered textures, vibrant colour and a strong sense of movement, creating pieces that feel energetic, playful and full of character. Alongside contemporary abstract works, Lucy is also known for her striking floral pieces and large scale canvases.

After graduating with a first class honours degree in Graphic Design & Illustration from the University of Hertfordshire, Lucy worked in publishing as a children’s book designer before focusing on her own creative practice. Her background in design continues to influence her work, bringing a strong sense of composition and storytelling to each piece.

Inspired by nature, colour and everyday surroundings, Lucy creates artwork that combines expressive brushwork with textured detail and rich contrasts. She enjoys experimenting with colour, texture and scale to create artwork that feels energetic and personal.

Lucy lives and works in the village of Ashwell, near Royston, (her son even delivers The Listing in the village!), where she continues to develop both personal projects and commissioned artwork.
