Community News: Royston Leisure Centre

Royston Leisure Centre has reached a major milestone in its ongoing refurbishment, with the completion of phase two delivering a gym extension.

The centre, owned by North Herts Council and operated by Everyone Active, has undergone a series of improvements over recent months. The latest phase has seen the gym more than double in size, creating a spacious, state-of-the-art fitness area for members.

The newly extended gym now occupies the former group exercise studio, offering a greatly increased footprint and a wide range of new equipment. This includes the latest Life Fitness machines, such as advanced treadmills, cross trainers and bikes, alongside enhanced strength equipment and Theraguns to support muscle recovery.

As part of the redesign, a new dedicated group exercise studio has been created. This space now hosts all non-cycling classes, providing an improved environment for group workouts.

The gym extension has been funded by North Herts Council, with an investment of approximately £1.8 million in improving facilities at the centre.

Alongside the fitness improvements, a range of decarbonisation measures have also been completed at the site. These include the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels, improved insulation and glazing, and upgraded air-handling systems. These low carbon technologies will significantly reduce emissions and support the council’s target of achieving net zero emissions from its operations by 2030.

North Herts Council and Everyone Active would like to thank members for their patience during the refurbishment and look forward to welcoming everyone to the improved centre.
