This month Royston Photographic Society have their Secretary Karen Akers centre stage to share her photography.
Karen moved to Royston in 2018 and joined the society having previously been a camera club member elsewhere. She is a long standing photographer but her photography has taken a different direction in recent years. Through practise and attending courses and workshops, Karen has moved from taking momento shots of family and holidays, to taking more crafted images capturing natural beauty on her many holidays and days out. Since taking early retirement Karen has been lucky enough to visit many far flung places, always taking her camera. Some of her favourite places are shown in the attached pictures.
Her favourite subjects are wildlife and landscapes, using the natural light to it’s best effect. Karen was recently inspired by another member talking about entries to this years Amateur Photographer of the Year competition. She entered a few images of her own into the Animal Kingdom round. In the recently announced results Karen is extremely proud to have been shortlisted for her picture of a penguin caring for it’s egg. This is a really prestigious accomplishment in an international competition.
Karen adds a lot to club life with her energy and experience of other camera clubs. In return she enjoys viewing the work of other members and values the tips and advice offered by various competition judges through the year. Equally valuable to her has been the guidance and opinions of other members helping Karen to progress her photography skills.
