New year, sustainable you… Welcome to a brand, shiny new year.
We all have high hopes for 2026; maybe you plan to lose weight, go on holiday, or get a new job. Or at the very least, we can all hope to have a better year than the last one. This year, why not make your New Years’ Resolution something that benefits the environment as well as doing you good? Don’t try to do too much; just pick one change and stick to it!
You could commit to Veganuary:
www.veganuary.com and go vegetarian or vegan for a month; as well as potentially being healthier this could drastically reduce your carbon footprint. The Eco Church have some interesting discussion boards about plant milks on display in Royston Parish Church currently. www.roystonparishchurch.org.uk
Some of us might plan to be more mindful and connected to Nature this year. Getting sunlight every day is proven to help with low moods and most of us could benefit from moving our bodies more. Why not try out a walking group, or join Royston Environmental Group or Friends of Therfield Heath www.friendsoftherfieldheath.org.uk on a litter pick? Sustainable Shepreth sheprethparishcouncil.gov.uk/the-parish/sustainable-shepreth and Friends of Therfield Heath also run mindfulness nature connection sessions – or you can always commune with Nature on your own if the mood takes you.
A fun way to be outdoors is to try gardening and growing your own veg; visit the town allotments or a Royston Tesco Community Garden Open Afternoon www.facebook.com/RoystonTescoGarden for ideas and tips.
Wishing everyone a sustainable and planet-friendly year!
