Club News: Melbourn Football Club Update

After a busy summer of preparations, including appointing experienced coach George Ball as our new manager, Melbourn Football Club recently kicked off the 2025/26 season. The team has worked hard through pre-season, with good numbers at training and a strong spirit building both on and off the pitch.

This year we are trying something new with a “no subs” model. Instead of players paying matchday fees, we’ve introduced a single £40 signing-on fee (free for 16-17 year-olds and those in full-time education). This covers player insurance and training kit, and the rest of the club’s running costs are covered through fundraising and sponsorship. It’s a model designed to make grassroots football more affordable and accessible, while keeping the club sustainable. We’re grateful to all the players, supporters and volunteers who are helping make it work.

Fundraising is already in full swing. Our Last Man Standing competition is proving popular, while August’s Melbourn FC Golf Day at Barkway Golf Club raised vital funds for the club. We’ll also be holding more events through the season, so keep an eye out for details on our social media pages.
