Community News: Royston Rotary & Royston u3a joined together for an evening of celebration!

Two of Royston’s largest and best-loved community groups – the town’s u3a and its Rotary club – joined together this week for an evening of celebration.

Jackie Gellert, who has served as Chair of Royston u3a since its relaunch ten years ago, was invited with husband Ralph to dinner with Rotary at the town’s golf club for the presentation of a prestigious Service Recognition Award.

Rotary President, Jean Green, said: “it was a great opportunity to recognise Jackie’s energy and enthusiasm – and also to share our belief in friendship, fellowship and community involvement.”

Jackie added: “From very basic beginnings in the Town Hall we were unsure whether a second go at starting a Royston U3A, after a previous failure, could succeed. Now, 10 years on, I can honestly say that with over 400 members and 30 interest groups, it has worked!”
