Community News: Royston & District Motorcycle Club Annual Show 2025

Wednesday 18th June saw the 40th anniversary of the Royston and District Motorcycle Club (RDMCC) Annual Show.  This event was held at the Eternit Social Club on the Whaddon Road and attracted 3,300 visitors.  Most arrived motorcycle, about 2500 in fact.

Right from the formation of the club the words ‘to support local and motorcycle related charities’ were enshrined in our constitution.  The club has over 60 paid up members, meet socially twice a month, undertake regular Tuesday rides and weekend rides, attend other local motorcycle events and have a winter talks programme.

The show is our headline money raising event, traditionally held on the third Wednesday of June.  We charge a five pound entry and the proceeds are divided between our chosen charities, namely East Anglian Air Ambulance and the SERV Bloodrunners in the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire areas.  We also support other charities to a lesser extent including a Mental Health provider, Prostate Cancer Research and the Easter Egg / Christmas Toy runs to Addenbrookes Hospital.

This year the show raised twenty thousand pounds and in the last fifteen years we have donated over a quarter of a million pounds to our chosen charities.

So  what can you see at the show?  Motorcyclists enjoy looking at other people’s motorbikes, and with almost two and a half thousand in the bike park there’s plenty of choice.  We also have a smaller area containing bikes that we think will be of particular interest to show goers.

Inside the main arena  are a number of exhibitors including our chosen charities,  road safety and motorcyclist training organisations, trade stands and club stands (including our own with a fine display of member’s machines).  Numerous catering outlets offer lots of choice for our visitors.

We are very conscious of the potential noise impact on local residents and as such do not include live music acts, restrict the use of a public address system and implore our visitors to ride with consideration to and from the event.  We also target all visitors motorcycles to be off site by 10 pm.

At the time of writing next year’s show is planned for Wednesday 17th June.

To finish we must, of course, put out a special thank you to the show organiser, Mark Coningsby, who has handled virtually every aspect of the show for the past twenty years.  Mark has now stood down from the role and we have every confidence that the show committee will carry on the good work in future.

If you want to join the club, or get involved in some way, please take a look at our website  (https://roystonmotorcycleclub.co.uk) or come along to a club night.  We meet from 8pm. on the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Eternit Social Club on the Whaddon Road.
