Royston Environmental Group
It’s a simple fact that we are choking our oceans in plastic waste. It’s not someone else’s problem, it’s a global issue for which we are all responsible.
Royston Environmental Group (REG) is working with residents and local businesses towards having Royston certified as a Plastic Free Community.
REG uses the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) organisation to endorse the work it does. Making simple changes to the way we live not only improves our environment but can also save money. We work with community groups and residents to reduce and manage their single-use plastic waste. We already have our first three small businesses certified by SAS and REG! These are: Kooky Nohmad, who use recyclable or biodegradable containers and where you can even pick up a coffee in your own cup; Hush, which advocates beauty treatments that minimise waste; and Heart to Earth, where you can buy loose groceries and green cleaning products to refill your own containers.
When not in lockdown, members of REG litter-pick around the town. An SAS brand audit is completed to help track the packaging offenders. As restrictions are slowly lifted we hope to organise more events, which can be found on our Events page. Also via the REG website, as well as a link to SAS information, you can find out how to create a Hedgehog Highway in your neighbourhood and become a Hedgehog Champion.
