Then third triennial Ashwell Banger Challenge charity event will be on the weekend of 24th April 2020.
Following a parade on the Friday evening, 53 competitors in 12 teams will be embarking on a weekend of whacky challenges in a car bought for less than £350. The teams will choose a theme, decorate their car and themselves accordingly to look silly.
The aim is to raise as much as possible for Happy Days Children’s Charity in Hitchin and the British Heart Foundation (50/50 split).
Happy Days Children’s Charity helps families and groups by organising and funding special days and holidays such as trips to the seaside, theatres, zoos, museums, outdoor activity centres, sporting events and other educational and cultural activities for children in the UK living with mental, physical and emotional difficulties.
With the public’s help, Happy Days Children’s Charity were able to support almost 25,000 children with additional needs last year, removing barriers to give them a chance to get out, make new friends, develop new skills and build confidence in the face of adversity.
The British Heart Foundation’s vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. Great progress has been made but heart and circulatory diseases still kill 1 in 4 in the UK, causing heartbreak on every street.
That’s why their work is so important. They raise money to research cures and treatments, so they can beat heartbreak forever.
In 2014, the Ashwell Banger Challenge raised £5,000 for CLIC Sargent and in 2017 they managed to raise a whopping £22,662 for Barnardo’s. They are asking for your help this year to help them beat their incredible record. At the time of writing, nearly £3,500 has been raised.
