Local running group the Royston Runners have a large amount of members who are taking part in the various marathons from April onwards, in aid of some very worthy charities:
Abi Moore and her friend, our Listing’s very own Sharon Windebank, are running for Herts MS Therapy Centre in Letchworth. Sharon says “After years of watching the London Marathon on the TV this year I set myself a goal and applied for a place. This will be my toughest challenge yet but am preparing myself to run/jog/walk or even crawl through the finish line!” Abi always said she’d do it one year. So when the opportunity came around she knew 2017 was the year to put my words into action!

“I was very lucky to be given a ballot place to run in the London marathon on 23rd April 2017. After years of applying I couldn’t believe it when the ‘You’re In’ magazine dropped through my letter box. I had no hesitation in knowing that the charity I would choose to raise money for is Home-Start Royston & South Cambs (HSRSC).”

David Rootes (Royston Runners) will compete in the London Marathon for a charity called PhabKids (www.phab.org.uk), a national charity that breaks down barriers for disabled & able kids.
The reason behind this is because he has a very disabled nephew, Adam. This year Phab are celebrating 60 years of inspiring and supporting children.

Debbie Parry is making her first Marathon attempt!
In 2013 her world was turned upside down by a breast cancer diagnosis, just 7 weeks after learning she was going to be a Grandma for the first time. She swore that she would run a marathon just to let the cancer know it had picked on the wrong person!
