Royston’s History – Royston Museum – Celebrating 40 years 1984-2024

It’s been another busy month at the Museum.

Sophie has been creating the first of two temporary exhibitions celebrating Royston Museum’s 40th Anniversary this year.  This first exhibition explores the Royston Institute Museum, which opened 168 years before the current museum. Rhian has spent a day in London discovering how to create immersive experiences using the Museum, its stories, and collections; keep an eye out for some exciting new events later this year!

We’re very excited to share that the Museum has been successful in joining the SHARE Environmentally Responsible Museums Cutting Carbon programme. Through a mixture of training, funding and expert advice, the team will begin to work towards a more environmentally sustainable future for the Museum. One of the first steps is to complete Carbon Literacy training, which will improve the staff’s awareness of climate change, and the impacts of our everyday actions.

The new Community Room is now open as a warm space for the whole community: families, adults, and those in need. We’re very grateful to Hertfordshire Community Foundation for enabling us to open the space. The Community Room is open as a Warm Space during normal opening hours (excluding a handful of dates). There are tables for anyone who needs a workspace, plus board games and jigsaws to enjoy.

Finally, did you know there’s a community notice board at the musuem? If you have a poster you’d like to display, please pop in and speak to any member of staff. .
