Community News… Royston Repair Shop

Royston Repair Shop

Many millions of viewers love The Repair Shop on BBC TV.

It wrapped a comfort blanket around us during the pandemic and continues to show how mending a much-loved item can bring back fond family memories. The professional craftwork shows the love, time and talent that brings items back to life.

On May 20th, Royston Repair Café will again be showcasing the talent of their (unpaid) expert repairers. Unlike the TV programme, each attempted fix is only up to 45 minutes, but even so the repairers can work wonders with many of the broken items booked in for assessment. At the last community repair event, repairers John and Martin fixed ‘a dragon that no longer flaps its wings’ and ‘a singing penguin that no longer rocks to the music’ and two delighted owners departed with their grandchildren’s favourite toys back in action.

The doors of Coombes Community Centre will open at 2pm on Saturday 20th May to offer further assessments and, hopefully, free fixes of electrical items, bikes, clothes, tents, tools and, of course, toys.

It’s essential to book broken items (only one per person) in advance at https://roystonrepaircafemay20.eventbrite.co.uk

In case of difficulty with online bookings, send email details about your broken item – make, model and problem – and your name to leeinroyston@aol.com or call 07962 157589
