Royston Museum – February Update

February Update: From Emma – Museum Curator…

Our year started with the installation of the new bespoke storage in our Collections Store and Art Store.

Over two days, a small team transformed both rooms, leaving them barely recognisable compared to just a few weeks ago. Since then, Sophie and Francesca, our new Collections Assistant, have been working hard to move our collection into its new home. Part of this work has included carefully updating our records with each object’s new location, so we can easily find each of the 20,000 objects in our care.

Alongside this, Rhian and I have been planning a jam-packed programme of events for the rest of the year. As well as family activities during the school holidays we have new monthly activities: including evening talks for adults, Museum Babies and Museum Tots for under 5s and their adults, and Spark!, our new art club for young people. Cosy Club is our new weekly crafting club – on Thursday evenings it’ll be a great way to relax with likeminded people and your favourite craft.

After a busy few months, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the Museum. We will reopen from Saturday 15th February ready for February half term and some prehistoric family fun!  We’ll also have a new temporary exhibition showcasing our work this winter and how we care for the collection.

Our opening hours from Saturday 15th February will be Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm. We hope to see you soon!
